Botox before & after treatment photos
Dr Jaliman was one of the first doctors in NYC to use Botox injections for cosmetic use and is an acknowledged expert in its use. She is celebrated among television personalities and actors for her Botox “lite” approach, which smooths lines and creases while retaining expression and facial mobility. She can also completely smooth out all the facial lines and wrinkles if a patient so desires.
How does Botox work?
Botox blocks the impulses from the nerves to the muscles so they do not contract. After Dr. Jaliman’s treatment the overlying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled while the untreated facial muscles contract as usual allowing normal facial expression to be unaffected.
What is Botox?
Botox is a neuromodulator which works by relaxing the muscle that it is injected into. When the muscle is relaxed than the skin overlying the muscle smooths out. Many facial lines will disappear. Very deep lines may only soften. It then may be necessary to fill those lines with a filler or to treat them with a laser.
Are there other neuromodulators?
Xeomin and Dysport are other neuromodulators that work like Botox.
What areas of the face can be treated?
The forehead, frown, crow’s feet, lip lines, bunny lines on the nose, corners of the mouth, and the neck. It is also possible to lift the eyebrows with Botox.
How long does Botox last?
Botox can last anywhere from 3 to 6 months.
How is Botox given?
Botox is injected with a very fine micro-needle into the muscle. A very precise amount of Botox is injected into several locations in the face.
When is the best time to get Botox before a big event?
It’s best to get Botox 1-2 weeks before a big event. Just in case you have any slight swelling or bruising it will have gone away.
Is Botox safe?
Botox has been used safely and effectively for years. It is an increasingly popular treatment for reversing the visible signs of aging.
What are common side effects?
The most common side effects are redness, bruising and swelling. This can easily be covered by makeup. Most people don’t have any side effects.
What are rare side effects?
It is important to go to an experienced injector of Botox. Dr Jaliman has been injecting Botox since 1991 so she has many years of experience with this neurotoxin. Rare side effects include ptosis, which is an eyelid droop. This happens because the Botox is injected into the wrong muscle. It can be reversed by eyedrops. Other uncommon side effects include asymmetry of the face which can be reversed by adding additional Botox to other muscles to balance this. Another uncommon problem is that the eyebrows are lowered because Botox was injected too low in the forehead.
Is it painful?
For patients who are concerned about discomfort a topical numbing cream is placed on the skin for 15 to 20 minutes prior to the procedure. This numbs the skin so that the injections are barely felt. Most people have Botox treatments without any numbing cream as the injections are very quick and rather painless.
How do I prepare for Botox?
It is important to stop taking any alcohol, ibuprofen, aspirin, fish oil or vitamin E one week before the procedure.
What can I do after Botox?
Do not lie down for a one hour after the Botox injections. This is important because you do not want the Botox to migrate into another muscle group. It is also important not to rub or massage the area where the Botox was injected. You can exercise after one hour and resume your normal activities immediately.
When can I expect results?
The results from the Botox injections do not show immediately. It takes a few days to one week for the results to become apparent.
How can I maintain the results of my Botox?
It is important to get repeat injections of Botox every 3 to 4 months. This will maintain the smooth natural appearance that you obtain with your Botox.
How can I get a natural appearance with Botox?
Some doctors inject a large amount of Botox into each muscle group. This can give a very unnatural frozen appearance. Some patients like this look. Dr Jaliman calls this the “Stepford wife” look. It is very important to discuss with the doctor how you want your face to look before having Botox. Some people like a more natural appearance and then less Botox is injected into that area of the face. The advantage of having Botox at Dr Jaliman’s practice is that the Botox is injected on the first visit. Then the patients are encouraged to come back in the next 2 weeks for a touch up, at no charge if they feel that they need more Botox. That allows Dr Jaliman to achieve a perfect balance in the muscles. Once she has determined exactly how much Botox is required it is recorded into our computer. Your customized Botox recipe is then available for your future visits.
Can Botox make my muscles stronger?
This is a common misconception. Botox weakens the muscles. When the Botox wears off the muscles will return to their normal strength.
What can I do if I do not like my Botox?
Unfortunately, you need to wait for the Botox to wear off. This can take 3 to 4 months. Unlike with filler injections, Botox cannot be removed from the body.
How much experience has Dr. Jaliman had giving Botox injections into the face?
Dr Jaliman has had almost 25 years of experience injecting Botox in the face.
Can Botox injections be given in conjunction with filler injections?
Sometimes lines are very deep and Botox injections alone will not eradicate them. It is then necessary to fill these lines with a hyaluronic acid filler.
Can Botox be used to treat depression?
There are 3 studies to suggest that treating the frown lines with Botox injections can help alleviate depression. The concept behind this is that we express and regulate our emotions by the expressions that we show on our face. If we interrupt the cycle by not allowing the facial muscles to contract then we can affect the emotions that we feel. Patients experienced an average of 47.1% reduction in depression after 6 weeks. There were 30 patients in the group.
How is Botox priced?
Botox can be priced by the unit that you use or by the area. In our office we price Botox by the area. So, no matter how much Botox you need you won’t be charged an additional amount. Each area has a price and you know the price before you are injected so there are no surprises.
What about inexpensive Botox that is advertised?
If it’s too inexpensive it may not be Botox or it may be over diluted Botox. In our office we use Botox bought in the US and given in a concentrated form.
Can asymmetric eyebrows be corrected with Botox?
By carefully evaluating the eyebrows and the forehead asymmetry can be corrected. This is accomplished by injecting micro droplets of Botox into the appropriate muscles. A skilled injector is needed.
Can I have Botox on the day of my laser?
The laser treatment must be done before the Botox.
How else can Botox be used?
Botox can be used for severe underarm sweating. It’s stops underarm sweating for 6 to 7 months. Symptoms will gradually return and a retreatment will be needed.
Who cannot have Botox injections?
If you’re pregnant or breast-feeding you cannot have Botox injections. If you have a rare neurologic disease such as ALS, myasthenia gravis or Lambert Eaton syndrome you would not be a good candidate for Botox.
